Swordfish Recaptured Off St. Helena

The tagged fish was at large for over 500 days in the Atlantic Ocean

The Billfish Foundation recently reported an interesting tag recapture from a swordfish. On September 11, 2014, Capt. Terry Brennan and mate Anthony Phillips tagged a swordfish aboard the longline vessel Argonaut just north of St. Helena, located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean off Africa.

On March 8, 2016, the swordfish was recaptured roughly 1,000 miles south of St. Helena by another longline vessel. The recapture was reported to TBF by Blanca Garcia of the Instituto Espanol de Oceanografia.
