Marlin Expeditions FAQs

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR EDUCATION-BASED FISHING ADVENTURES

Marlin Expeditions provides travel packages that cover basic expenses. The costs include most meals, the boats, the fishing, professional instruction, accommodations, and airport transfers.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced angler, you’ll gain valuable insights based on your level of effort and engagement. Our professional instructors are dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. At Marlin Expeditions, you’ll learn comprehensive fishing tips and angling techniques to safely hook, fight, and release billfish and other gamefish. The program covers gear familiarization, teamwork, tournament strategy, and skill refinement while correcting any bad fishing habits. Each expedition includes hands-on, personalized, side-by-side instruction.

You don’t need to be an experienced fisherman to participate in Marlin Expeditions. We’ll evaluate your experience level and pair you with those who have similar experience so everyone is learning at the same pace. Our instructors meet you at your skill level. Whether you are a novice, a weekend fisherman, or a tournament angler, there is always something to learn, and most participants catch their first-ever billfish during one of our sessions and then go on to be tournament winners themselves.

No, our boats are fully outfitted with the best fishing equipment and tackle necessary for the type of fishing you will be doing.

Once we arrive at the destination, we take a little time to check in and relax. A short, casual fishing orientation is then given to familiarize the class with the equipment, fishing terms, positions, and scenarios you’ll likely encounter during the fishing day. This orientation is followed by dinner.

The next four days embody our mantra: Fish, learn, connect, succeed, repeat. Marlin Expeditions offers a unique opportunity to learn everything you can about fishing, pairing you with a team of two or three other anglers who share similar fishing skills.

What makes our experiences so great is that the teams rotate boats daily, allowing you to fish with each instructor and boat crew. The best way to become a good fisherman is to learn from as many people as possible. Our instructors have specific fishing styles, so you’ll pick up various techniques from each of them to help find what works best for you.

Our top priority is your safety and comfort. Certain physical conditions and limitations, such as difficulties with standing for long periods, mobility issues, or sensitivity to sun exposure might affect your ability to participate. These activities include standing in the sun for extended periods, boarding and disembarking from a boat, handling fishing equipment, agility, and potentially dealing with rough sea conditions. We also recommend that participants be able to swim. If you have any health concerns or physical limitations, please let us know so we can discuss how to best accommodate your needs, if possible.

We practice catch-and-release billfishing. Any gamefish, such as tuna or dorado, we might keep to eat ourselves or give to the boat crews to help feed their families and neighbors.
