Arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City for private transport to Casa Vieja Lodge for check-in and pool time. A short, casual fishing orientation is given to familiarize the guests with the equipment, fishing terms, positions, and scenarios you’ll likely encounter during a typical fishing day. This orientation is followed by dinner, where instructors pair you with others who share similar fishing skills.
Fishing days start early. The staff will gently wake you with coffee (or your drink of choice) brought to your room at around 5:45 a.m. Breakfast is served at 6 a.m., and departure to the marina is at 6:45 a.m. Each day is unique as the anglers’ skills, weather, and bite factor into what happens on the water. But the overall goal remains constant: catch fish, learn, and connect with your team. Boats are back at the marina around 4 p.m. for pool time, cocktails, and snacks, and dinner is served around 7 p.m.
Anglers put what they have learned to the test and compete in a one-day shootout against the other team(s). Everything is on the line, including a custom-made trophy made by King Sailfish Mounts. The day concludes with dinner and the awards and graduation ceremonies.
Breakfast starts at 6 a.m. Your departure time will vary based on your flight, but we’ll ensure there’s more than enough time for your private transport back to the airport in Guatemala City.
Catch billfish and gamefish, improve your angling skills, and meet new friends in a six-day travel experience that is fully curated just for you.
Since the early 1990s when boats discovered a huge concentration of Pacific sailfish, sport fishing has flourished off Guatemala’s Pacific Coast. Anglers from all over the world come here to catch them in big numbers, making Guatemala the perfect place to catch your first one on fly.
This Guatemala fishery is difficult to pass up. Close to 100 releases in a single day, across four days, is a real possibility here, and almost nowhere else in the world offers this many shots at billfish. We’ve analyzed the data, and aim to put you right there in the middle of it.
Circle-hook fishing is the game in Guatemala, and to be a good dead-bait fisherman, you should master this technique. And with so many shots, chances are you’ll improve a hundredfold over four fishing days.
Casa Vieja’s fleet of classic fish-raising boats, high-profile captains and top-notch mates ensure an unforgettable fishing adventure, with opportunities to catch sailfish, three species of marlin, and other prized gamefish. These guys are just as into it as we are. No one wants you to succeed more than they do, so they’ll be working as hard as possible to put you on the fish. After that, it’s up to you to apply the skills you learn to make the connection, maybe place a tag and take a picture, and then release a healthy fish to fight another day.
If generally calm waters and multiple shots at billfish excite you, then the Pacific coast of Guatemala is your fishing paradise!
