The Bastante John Uhr Memorial Billfish Tournament is held in Rockport, Texas each year to celebrate the life of Capt. Johnny Uhr, who was well known in the sport-fishing community around the world. Uhr passed away after a battle with cancer in 2010. His son Jackson Uhr continues with the family’s fishing legacy as part of the tournament each year — he is the designated check holder in the photos.
The Mucho Mas team won the fifth annual event this year, releasing a blue marlin and five sailfish. Uno Mas placed second with one blue marlin and two sailfish released, while High Noon was third with a blue and a white marlin, both released. The tournament benefits many local charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Rockport-Fulton Humane Society, the June Project, Rockport Aquarium and Coastal Bend Troop Support.
