_General Description:
The position of Managing Editor is multi-faceted and an ideal job for someone serious about learning magazine and content production from the ground up. It provides a unique opportunity to assist in almost every aspect of producing the magazine and may provide an eventual path to the Senior Editor position for the right hire. The major duty of the Managing Editor will be keeping the production process on schedule, tracking content and art as it arrives, and assuring the smooth delivery of the pages from galley form to press.
Additionally, the Managing Editor will contribute writing and digital content to the magazine, web, and social media as required and will be expected to represent the magazine from time to time at boat shows and other events.
Duties:
\* Drive the production process by being well organized and proactive
\* Plan and edit Lines In column
\* Plan, develop and edit Travel Brief column
\* Plan develop and write Boating Products section
\* Write Table of Contents
\* Assist Editorial staff and Art Director with photo collection, as necessary
\* The managing editor follows up on all assignments; ensures that all material meets assigned criteria and arrives in a timely fashion
\* Ensures that all editorial content undergoes proofing by necessary editors, copy editor, advertising (when relevant) and author
\* Pulls certain editorial content into galleys; coordinates all editorial content through the production process, making corrections and revisions in InCopy as necessary
\* Manages edit and photography payments; and generates contracts for all editorial content.
\* Assist Editor in managing, scheduling and producing relevant digital and social media content
Skills Required:
\* Strong writing and editing ability
\* Familiarity with InCopy and InDesign products
\* Familiarity with, or a willingness to quickly master contract management system
\* An interest in and willingness to produce digital content (photos, videos, Facebook and web posts)
\* A keen enthusiasm and knowledge of offshore fishing, boats and the Marlin brand
\* An energetic, hard worker who enjoys a team environment_
