Day 3: Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic 2014

Los Cabos, MEXICO (November 21, 2014) – The third day of fishing at the Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic featured more giant tuna getting reeled in, including the largest of the event so far – a great billfish bite. Nine more lucky winners will earn cash and prizes from the Free Angler entry tournament presented by the Los Cabos Tourism Board.

Fishing out of San Jose on Kyka, angler Joseph Arroyo of Lancaster, CA, baited a massive 234.50-pound tuna earning first place for the day. For angler Brook Livingston of Pickerington, OH, and the crew on 19’s Toy, it was a comeback story from the previous days disappointment of missing the scales deadline by seven minutes with what would have been a second place tuna. Livingston and his fellow anglers on 19’s Toy got back on their game and landed a 117.2-pound tuna to earn second place.

In the wahoo category Greg Warren of Wilson, TX, took first place with a 43.5-pound wahoo on Cabo Playa. The big dorado of the day went to Ernie Sandoval of Chula Vista, CA, fishing aboard Cabolero. Lady angler Michelle Schoning of Corvallis, OR, took Top Lady honors with her second place, 20.7-pound dorado caught on Blue Sky.

A bit of drama was added when Edith II pulled into the slip with only two minutes left to close the scales, holding a large blue marlin on the dive platform. The visiting anglers from Washington were elated to catch the fish after a three and a half hour fight, but missed out on a $2,500 payday by not entering the tournament; they have already reserved the boat and plan on fishing next year. Several other marlin and sailfish were released with the bite continuing to be consistent, but no qualifying marlin came to the scales and the prize money was shared evenly among the game fish winners.

At press time the tournament is in its final day of fishing with 340 eligible anglers, fishing on 117 different Charter Boats from the East Cape, San Jose and Cabo San Lucas. They are all enjoying a beautiful fall day on the azure waters of the Pacific and Sea Of Cortez with the added excitement that only comes from tournament fishing. The final $10,000 in cash, trophies and prizes will be determined at the scales this afternoon from 2:30 – 4:30pm.
