The 12th Annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament took place August 19-22 at Southside Marina, with 75 boats with 498 anglers for a purse of $418,500.
Overall, 182 billfish were released: 17 blue marlin, 154 white marlin, nine sailfish and two spearfish. Although blue marlin over 115-inches may be boated, only one marlin in the tournament’s 12 year history has been brought to the scales, a 122-inch, 582-pound blue caught by Dave Youens on Fortuna in 2004.
