When you’re hot, you’re hot – that’s certainly the case with Tranquilo, who won the first leg of the Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown in Costa Rica. The team, led by owners Ken and Amanda Cofer, stayed in the hunt with some very consistent fishing each day; by the end of the tournament, they topped the leaderboard with 66 sailfish and three marlin for 8,100 points. “We had great teamwork, knowing what the other anglers are going to do without saying a whole lot, and also great karma for this tournament,” says Tranquilo owner Ken Cofer. “We have a great captain too – Victor Julio doesn’t get down on us when we miss a fish, and that helps.”

In second place was Agitator, who had an outstanding showing in this year’s event. Capt. Jon Duffie and his team released 76 sailfish for a total of 7,600 points. In third was Fish Tank with 73 sailfish and 7,300 points. Sea Angel was fourth with 7,200 points and Trophy Box made it into the top five with 6,800 points. The 44 participating teams released a total of 1,961 qualifying billfish in the three-day event: 1,946 sailfish and 15 marlin.
