Kona is officially heating up.
As the Hawaii season moves into full swing, the big fish have arrived in a hurry. After Bwana weighed a 732-pound blue marlin on Day Two of the Firecracker Open, the Kona fleet followed with another electric day on the water during Day One of the Kona Throw Down.
First, Marlin Magic put a 707.5-pound blue marlin on the scale, the kind of fish that usually holds up just fine in Kona. But as the clock wound down, Bad Company delivered the buzzer-beater, sliding in with a 778-pound blue marlin to take over the top spot and send another jolt through Honokohau Harbor.
That makes three blue marlin over 700 pounds in just two days in Kona: 732 for Bwana, 707.5 for Marlin Magic and 778 for Bad Company. For a fishery already known for producing giant Pacific blues within sight of the harbor, this stretch has added serious energy to the early summer tournament season.
The bite is on, the fleet is fired up, and Kona’s big-fish season looks like it has officially found another gear.
There’s still time to get in on the action. Next up in the series is the Skins Marlin Derby, and quality charter boats with omni sonar are still available. Register now at hawaii.catchstat.com or email [email protected].
