This year’s Quepos Billfish Cup came down to the wire, showcasing some great fishing out of Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica. Caliente started out on fire, just as their boat name implies, releasing 30 sailfish on Day One of the tournament. But it was Fish Tank who would win Days Two and Three, and finished with 63 total sailfish releases to take first place in the tournament. Caliente was forced to settle for a strong second-place finish with one marlin and 49 sailfish releases. Taking third place was Tranquilo, a home-port favorite. Tranquilo finished with one marlin and 34 sailfish releases. Fuujin finished in fourth place and just missed the podium.

Top tournament angler honors went to T. Dudley Soechling from Caliente. Samantha Mumford aboard Billfish took home the prize for top women’s angler in the tournament. And the award for most tagged and released fish for science, sponsored by Gray’s Fish Research and the Marina Pez Vela Research Center, went to Fish Tank. They also won an invitation to represent the Quepos Billfish Cup in the 2016 Offshore World Championship, to be held April 17-22, 2016, at Marina Pez Vela.
