Like many others lured to Costa Rica by the terrific winter fishing, Capt. Jon Duffie came to Los Sueños ready to go head to head against some of the best tournament teams in the world. At the helm of Agitator, Duffie led his crew to victory in what turned out to be a record-breaking second leg of this year’s Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown. On Day One, the 43 participating boats released a total of 1,103 sailfish, breaking the tournament’s one-day record for releases (the previous record was during Leg III of the 2015 Triple Crown with 879 billfish releases on the first day).
By the end of the three-day tournament, the fleet tallied 2,753 sailfish and one marlin released. Agitator accounted for 87 of those releases to finish in first place for the leg. In second place was Marc Stanley’s Pelese team with 86 releases. In third was the popular local charter boat Spanish Fly, also with 86 releases but falling just short on time. Incredibly, a team with 75 sailfish releases in three days would not have made the top 10 on the tournament scoreboard. Agitator moved into the lead for the overall top team in the Signature Triple Crown, with one just leg event remaining.
