Visions of Granders: Fishing the Wahine Tournament

Lady anglers rule the day

As the fishing season in Kona, Hawaii, continues into fall, captains Chris Donato and Joe Byrum host a team of lady anglers for the annual Wahine Tournament, fishing aboard Donato’s 37-foot Merritt, Benchmark. After tagging a blue marlin in the morning, the team worked south and found the fish feeding in the late afternoon, hooking a doubleheader and eventually tagging a second blue marlin for a fourth-place finish. The tournament benefits the Family Support Services of West Hawaii.
