It’s been 35 years since American angler Kay Mulholland made angling history with this 998-pound black marlin that she caught on October 23, 1982, while fishing Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Despite the immense size of the fish, Mulholland needed only 20 minutes to subdue the massive black after it ate the scad she was trolling behind Vindex, captained at the time by Jeffrey W. Gray. Mulholland’s impressive catch remains the third-heaviest fish caught on 20-pound tackle ever recorded by the IGFA.
