The Bahamas Stop Off and Drop Off Wish List

The Most In-Demand Rebuilding Supplies and Relief Items

In October 2015, the most powerful Atlantic basin storm in six years, Hurricane Joaquin, wreaked havoc across the central and southern Bahamas. Families lost power and access to food and water. Hundreds of homes and community centers were razed to their foundations by the storm surge.

Rebuilding has begun, but the beautiful island communities affected still have enormous challenges ahead. The Bahamas Stop Off and Drop Off campaign asks the divers, anglers and captains who visit these islands to lend a hand (or, in this case, maybe a hammer) during their Caribbean travels. Those who donate building materials, equipment and relief items (foodstuffs, hygiene products, etc.) will receive a night of free slip space for their generosity. Learn how to contact each island’s Stop Off and Drop Off coordinators.

Anyone with an Internet connection can donate funds to the Long Island Runner News’ Hurricane Joaquin relief CrowdRise page, but local volunteers need supplies and tools as soon as possible. Every wood board, nail and pallet of water bottles handed off directly to Stop Off and Drop Off organizers brings a new beginning for devastated Bahamians that much closer.
