Bohicket Marina in John’s Island, South Carolina, hosted the third leg of the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series: the Bohicket Invitational Billfish Tournament. And despite big blue marlin being weighed a few weeks earlier during the Georgetown tournament, this leg would be dominated by sailfish. Anticipation, owned by Paul Coury and skippered by Capt. Harvey Shiflet, released six sails in two days to take home Outstanding Billfish Boat and Outstanding Conservationist honors. David Sykes and Capt. Dan Woody led Syked Out to a second-place finish with three sailfish released, while Voodoo Child was third with one white marlin and one sailfish released.
After three tournaments, Sportin’ Life leads the South Carolina Governor’s Cup standings with 2,275 points. Game On is second with 1,703 points and Rascal is currently third with 1,650 points. Two tournaments remain in the 2016 series: the Megadock Billfishing Tournament is slated for June 29 to July 2, and the final event will be the Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament, July 20 to 22, 2016.
