Costa Rica’s breathtaking Pacific coast set the stage for the 2024 Costa Offshore World Championship, sponsored by Costa Sunglasses and the Costa Rica Tourism Institute. Over four exhilarating days, 42 teams and 198 anglers from 24 countries competed in one of the world’s top billfish fisheries out of Quepos.
Beyond the tournament, Costa Rica’s vibrant culture, stunning natural beauty, and endless adventure opportunities captivated visitors. From lush rainforests and active volcanoes to pristine beaches and rich biodiversity, the country offers something for every traveler. Participants enjoyed ideal fishing conditions, resulting in a record-breaking 686 Pacific sailfish and 13 marlin released, with a high of 272 billfish on the final day.
Brazil’s Marlin Rio team claimed victory with 6,600 points, earning gold rings and a spot on the OWC Perpetual Trophy. They were followed by the Yacht Clube da Bahia team in second and the 2008 champions in third. Individual honors went to Adrian de Silva for the top catch, and Matthew Rose and Christopher Spalding for the largest dorado and yellowfin tuna, respectively.
