The 37 teams that raced off from the shotgun start found great weather during the final fishing day of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament. The fleet encountered a few big fish, but no one got one big enough to bring back to the scales. This put Team Bill Collector‘s 483-pound black marlin in position to sweep the Levels 1 through 3 daily marlin jackpots. The catch also won the Largest Black Marlin category and earned the team first place in the overall team division. Bill Collector‘s Capt. Julio Gonzalez also won the Top Captain Award. The team, from California, was made up of Mark Chiavetta, Rick Sanfietta, Mitch Maggetti, Jim Glass and Don Broche. The team took home $167,877.50 and earned an invitation to the 2013 Offshore World Championship.

Team Bad Medicine made a move on the final day, catching a blue marlin in the morning and then converting a quad sailfish hookup during the final hour of fishing. Team Bad Medicine caught one blue marlin, one striped marlin and had four sailfish releases for a total of 1,000 points, winning First Place Billfish Release Team and Second Place Overall Tournament Team and the Day Three Billfish Release Jackpot. Angler Gary Mowat caught a 42.2-pound dorado on Bad Medicine to win the Day Two Dorado Jackpot. Total winnings for Team Bad Medicine totaled $43,753.75.
