In it’s seventh anniversary this year, the Quepos Billfish Cup hosted 12 teams, competing for three days in flat-calm seas off the central Pacific town in Costa Rica. It also marked the appearance of Team Hatteras, led by the company’s CEO, Kelly Grindle. Also fishing on the team was Hatteras chief operating officer Wade Watson and sales director Troy Hogan.

Capt. Keith Banks led the Caliente team to first place with 19 sailfish and one marlin release over the course of the three-day event. Fish Tank placed second with 20 sails and Game Plan was third with 17 sailfish and one marlin. In the small-boat division, Ben White won on his Contender, Shake and Bake, while Good Day and Queen Bee were second and third, respectively. Topher Wightman was the top angler in the large boat division on Fish Tank, while James Brown was the top angler in the small boat class. Samantha Mumford was the event’s top lady angler.

For the tournament there were 149 billfish releases: nine blue marlin, one black marlin and 138 sailfish.
