Tranquilo released 49 sailfish and one marlin to win the 2015 Quepos Billfish Cup
The Quepos Billfish Cup, held at Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica, hosted 13 teams representing five countries, including Finland, the United States, Canada, El Salvador and Costa Rica, during a very competitive tournament where the fleet released 373 sailfish and 6 marlin. The Quepos Billfish Cup is the first leg of the Central American Billfish Series and an official qualifying event for the Offshore World Championship, and a great bite preceeding the tournament excited all captains and crews.
Tranquilo earned top honors at the 2015 Quepos Billfish Cup after releasing a total of 49 sailfish and one marlin during the three day event. Ken and Amanda Coffer, owners of Tranquilo, and their fishing team staged a strong final day to come from behind by releasing 23 sailfish to claim the top spot. The win adds to an impressive collection of recent tournament wins and puts them in position to repeat as the Central American Billfishing Champion again in 2015.
Penny Perfect, who was high-hook on Day One,_ took home second place with a total of 44 salilfish releases, and was tied with _Tranquilo at 3,100 points going into the final day of the tournament. Third place went to the team aboard Uno Mas with 43 sailfish who just edged out the team aboard Billfish _who__ _released an impressive 24 sailfish on the second day of the tournament.
The Quepos Cup is the first stop on the Billfish Tournament Series of Central America circuit, which also includes the Presidential Papagayo Cup (May 29-31), Mukul International Billfish Tournament (June 4-6). Flor de Cana International Billfish Tournament (August 12-15), and the El Salvador International Billfish Tournament & Presidential Challenge of El Salvador (October 29-November 1).
