Once again this year, all eyes were on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica for the 2017 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown. This tournament series has become one of the most competitive in all of sport fishing, with teams battling it out for not just big money but also bragging rights. Making a top-three podium appearance in the Signature Series is incredibly tough, given the high level of talent in the fleet.

The fishing slowed down a bit for the third and final leg of the series but that didn’t stop 50 teams from giving it their best shot on the water over the course of the three tournament fishing days. The slower-than-usual fishing meant that every bite could mean the difference in thousands of dollars in prize money. In the end, just 400 points separated the first-place team, Sea Angel, from the third-place finishers on Fish Tank, and only the time of the last billfish release separated third from fifth place. It was incredibly tight fishing by any standard. By the call for lines out, there had been 509 billfish released: 462 sailfish and 47 marlin.

Photographer Pepper Ailor captured all the action from the third leg of the 2017 Signature Triple Crown during his time there, from the festivities ashore to the beautiful scenery and incredible offshore action. Enjoy this photo gallery from the event.
