2013 Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic Day 1 Results
The free-angler-entry Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic registered 287 anglers aboard 110 Los Cabos charter boats for the first day of competition awarding a total of $12,500. Additional entries to fish Saturday, November 22 pushed the total to 372 anglers aboard 131 charter boats that will compete for another guaranteed $12,500 plus trophies and prizes. Anglers fishing on charter boats not only get a fun day on the water, they get the excitement and adrenaline rush of fishing in a competition with the chance of winning thousands of dollars. The tournament features three weigh-in locations including Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort in East Cape, Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San Jose, and IGY Marina Cabos San Lucas, allowing visiting anglers across all of Los Cabos a chance to participate. The first day of competition saw winners fishing out of all three locations.
November 22nd results:
Anglers who fished aboard Ziggy out of Cabos San Lucas with Capt. Manuel Dominquez had a banner day, catching tuna, dorado and marlin. Brian Kehoe from New York caught the largest yellowfin tuna of the day at 70.8 pounds. Michael Kehoe, also from New York, caught the second largest at 57.5 pounds, and Dennis Loggie from Florida caught the third largest at 51.7 pounds. Charter boat Ziggy was top winning boat for the day.
In the dorado category, all winners fished from Cabo San Lucas. First place went to Joe Assenza from Evansville, Indiana with his 26.4-pound dorado fishing on Marlin Queen with Capt. Saniel Bosque. Gustavo Espinoza from Sinaloa, Mexico placed second with a 24.6-pound dorado caught on El Pargo with Capt. Jose Miguel. Angela Madeksho from Houston, Texas placed third with a 24.1-pound dorado caught on Petrolero with Capt.Ruben Agundez. Angela Madeksho also won the Top Lady Angler award for the day.
In the wahoo category, the first place 34.3-pounder was caught by Alan Broderick from Zionsville, Indiana, fishing the East Cape on Marlintini with Capt. Chicho Trasurina. The second place wahoo at 32.5 pounds was caught by Luis Roberto Beltran from San Jose del Cabo fishing out of San Jose on La PlayaxVIII with Capt. J. Beltran. Third place wahoo was 29 pounds caught by Arturo Miranda from Puerto del Mar fishing out of San Jose on Gaviota with Capt. Modesto Miranda.
The Top Junior Angler with a 16.3-pound dorado was Simon Kelly from Lynwood, Washington fishing aboard Bucanero with Capt. Jose Orozco Cesena out of Cabo San Lucas.
This tournament is presented by the Los Cabos Tourism Board and produced by the staff of Marlin, Sport Fishing and Salt Water Sportsman magazines.
