James Stewart from Andrews, TX fishing on Speedwell 307-pound blue marlin – $2,500 – Cabo Los Cabos Tournaments

Fishing improved for the 107-boat fleet fishing in the 3rd Annual Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic with impressive wahoo and tuna coming to the scales. Every category was filled on Day Two, with the boating of a 307-pound blue marlin by James Stewart from Andrews, Texas fishing on Speedwell. While a steady wind kept things shut down on the East Cape, the fishing off San Jose started picking up, especially for those targeting tuna. San Jose boats swept the tuna category and John Christensen from Ben, Oregon edged out the fleet with a 66.2-pound yellowfin caught on Julissa — earning $1,500. Bill Spearing from Payson, Arizona caught the second-place 54-pound tuna worth $600 on Ally Lew, and John Kasser from San Diego fishing on Fati weighed a 47.9-pounder worth $400.

Although the tuna bite was going strong in San Jose, all the dorado were being caught off Cabo. Jason Vincent from Frisco, Texas weighed in the largest dolphin of the day with a 25.4-pounder caught on Reel Rum and took home $1,500 for first. A rare tie occurred when Natalie Karnas from Aberdeen, WA fishing on Tantrum, and Jason Frisco each weighed a 22.8-pound dorado. Natalie and Jason split the second and third place dolphin money, earning $500 each for the tie.

No one weighed a wahoo on Day One of the LCBGCBC, but we’d soon see some nice specimens hitting the scales. Larry Bruce from Gresham Oregon brought in the first wahoo for the day weighing in at 41.3-pounds and remained in the top spot — taking home $1,500. Gabriella Smith from Lew, Washington, fishing aboard Lupita out of San Jose, caught a nice 28-pound wahoo to take second place and a $600 check. Gabriella also picked up the top lady angler trophy for Day Two. Scott Huber from Oregon added a second wahoo to Fin Addict’s total with a 22.3-pounder that took third place and a $400 payday.

A big blue marlin on the dock always draws a crowd and James Stewart’s 307-pound blue certainly got plenty of attention. Stewart caught the marlin while fishing on the Speedwell and earned $2,500 for the catch. The third time was the charm for Stewart and his group from Texas who have fished every year of the Charter Classic. Over 300 anglers left the docks on Day Three and you can still register for the final day of fishing by visiting loscabostournaments.com or at any one of the three weigh-in locations.
