Jupiter, FL- The 4th Annual Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure, presented by Grand Slam Tackle & Marine and the Square Grouper Tiki Bar, took place October 5 & 6, 2012, at the Square Grouper Tiki Bar in Jupiter. This highly-successful tournament had the largest crowds and fishing field to date! Under picturesque weather, the event featured a unique and festive mix of fishing, creative boat decorating, cocktail and costume contests, as well as an awards party to raise money for local breast and ovarian cancer patients who are in financial need throughout Palm Beach County.

Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure is Palm Beach County’s premier women’s fishing tournament which raises money for two local charities: H.O.W. -Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper and Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope. Since 2009, Bluewater Babes Fish for Cure has raised more than $100,000 to H.O.W. and the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope. And with this year’s success, more money than ever will be donated to those fighting breast and ovarian cancer in our community.

The tournament had a record total of 93 boats that participated in the all women’s fishing tournament and more than a thousand guests joined in the evening events. “Because of our supporters, the Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure Tournament has become the most fun, most talked about charity event in our community,” said Jennifer McGrath, chairwoman of the 4th Annual Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure event and H.O.W. program director. “The commitment of our sponsors and supporters is incredibly meaningful to us, because we get to witness first-hand the impact of helping a breast or ovarian cancer patient in financial need.”

Tiffany Kenny once again served as MC for the event and presented Christine Rinker, a breast cancer survivor, with the Kristin Hoke Memorial Trophy. This award is presented annually to an individual that goes above and beyond in helping someone or something in our community.

During the Friday night kick-off party, 32 groups participated in the annual Bacardi cocktail contest with celebrity judges Jennifer Ross from WRMF; Leslie Streeter from The Palm Beach Post and Eddie-E from WILD 95.5. The Bacardi cocktail contest winner was team APAVA. Other winners from the festivities included: Boat Decorating/Theme winner-Tenacious; Best Costume winner-Oils Well; Most Outrageous-One Love; and Number One Fan-Sweet Life.

Winners of the fishing tournament included: Kingfish: 1st place: Git-r-done, Jennifer Fields (25.68); 2nd place: Weak Moment, Belinda Machiela (23.32); 3rd place: Sea Wolf, Jody Edwards (16.03). Dolphin: 1st place: Team Turbulence, Amy Fisher-Housted (16.47); 2nd place: Defender, Keri Smith (15.4); 3rd place: C-Venture, Margaret Collins (15.3); Wahoo: 1st place: My Gal Sal, Emilee Sybrant (27.63); 2nd place, Mia Dawne, Angelique Malfregot (22.17); 3rd place: True Love, Abigal McCall (6); Heaviest Meat Fish went to Sea Robin, Shannon Perez (7-Mutton); Billfish Champion Lady Angler: Sasha Lickle (3 Sailfish released).
