Marlin Fishing Dominican Republic
The DR makes a perfect place for light-tackle world record chasers since large numbers of smaller-sized blue marlin show up in incredible numbers at times. These large numbers of fish make the bait-and-switch method a very effective way to present the line-class you want to the properly sized fish. Pitching a 12-pound outfit to a 300-pound blue marlin is some exciting stuff! We will probably fish mostly 20- and 30-pound tackle, using dead ballyhoo and four teasers, targeting small blue marlin in the 100- to 300-pound range. There might be some white marlin around as well and we won't run away from them! This should be a great place for you to catch a nice blue one while standing up!
The marlin bite was so good last year we had to come back for more!
In the last few years the use of dredges, and a teaser with an umbrella like rig and a whole bunch of lures or natural baits attached to it have been what the winningest crews on numerous billfish circuits give credit for their success. At Marlin University in the DR, you’ll learn how to efficiently use dredges. Lesser crews spend enormous amounts of time with tangles involving both teasers and dredges. Learning how to use dredges EFFECTIVELY from top professionals can make a big difference in your success fishing for billfish in your home waters!
Four years ago, a number of FADs (fish-attracting devices) set up along the coast drew incredible numbers of blue marlin into the area, and crews were catching up to five or six rat blues a day with surprising regularity. Combine all the hot bites with legitimate five-star hotels and marinas, like the Fishing Lodge at Cap Cana, and you've got an island paradise just a three-hour flight from Miami.
