The team aboard Double Take released nine sailfish — six of those coming on Day Two — to win the 2017 Silver Sailfish Derby in West Palm Beach, Florida. The team had just three sailfish releases after Thursday’s Day One action. Surprise and Southern Run each led the field with six releases, with the latter team winning the Day One Daily.
Double Take won the event on time, releasing its last sailfish at 11:21 a.m. on the final day of the event. Goin’ Raptor finished second with nine releases, the final one at 1:20 p.m. Pro Payroll placed third with eight, and Surprise and Seraphim each had seven releases to round out the top five. Goin’ Raptor won the Top Small Boat category for boats 35 feet or less in length. The West Palm Beach Fishing Club hosted the tournament, which is now in its 80th year.
The 40-boat fleet accounted for 153 sailfish releases, with 18 tagged. Double Take‘s Craig Lindner was Top Angler with five releases, four of those on Day Two, to win that day’s Top Daily Angler category. Rehab‘s Melanie Holliday was Top Lady Angler with four releases and Reel Easy‘s Luke Lulfs was Top Junior Angler with three releases.
Wes Clemente on Surprise was the Day One Top Daily Angler with three releases. The Get Lit team tagged five sailfish to win the Top Tag Team category.
