Los Sueños Resort and Marina, located on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, once again proved that it’s worthy of the many accolades as a world-class billfish destination as the third and final tournament of the 2019 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown wrapped up in March.

The season kicked off with the inaugural Los Sueños Ladies Billfish Tournament, won by Laura Jessen and Michelle Keeney on Fish Tank. It was the start of a serious competitive stretch for the Fish Tank team, who went on to take first place in Leg I of the series with 31 sails and three marlin for 4,600 points. The season opener saw 583 sails and 67 marlin caught by the fleet—par for the course, with more marlin earlier in the season.

Leg II got underway just as the bite was heating up in the deep blue waters off Los Sueños. Team Galati emerged victorious, with marine industry notables Carmine Galati of Galati Yacht Sales and Pat Healey, president of Viking Yacht Company, among the team’s anglers. They scored 81 sailfish and one marlin in three days, good for 8,600 points. The fleet tallied 2,042 sails and another 21 marlin in what proved to be the best fishing of this year’s three-tournament series.

The wrap up event, Leg III, saw continued good angling action though. Brooks Smith put Uno Mas into first place with 40 sails and two marlin for 5,000 points, while Fish Tank won the prestigious title of Overall Top Boat with17,400 points in the 2019 series.

The Triple Crown fleet released an incredible 3,821 sailfish and an additional 126 marlin during the nine total days of Triple Crown competition in 2019.
