Capt. Kevin Paul and the team on Lo Que Sea released six billfish in the three-day tournament, earning almost $82,000 in winnings and the Bodo Muche perpetual trophy in this year’s Abaco Beach Blue Marlin Tournament in the Bahamas.

Owner Tony Huerta is no stranger to wins in Capt. Skip Smith’s circuit – having won back-to-back Custom Shootouts in 2015 and 2016 and winning the inaugural Abaco Diamond Series in 2016 – but this is the first time Huerta and his Lo Que Sea team has won this particular tournament.

Huerta was named Top Angler, releasing five of the team’s six billfish, and Lo Que Sea captain Kevin Paul, received the Top Captain award for his efforts.

The second-place team, fishing aboard a 68-foot Hatteras named Asian Pearl accepted a check for close to $33,000 for three blue marlin releases, and in third, also releasing three blue marlin, was the F&S Boatworks team on Hit ‘N Run, collecting a little over $26,000.

Capt. Jason “Tiny” Walcott and the crew aboard the 76-foot Spencer Yachts Bad Daddy were the only team to boat a blue marlin – a 603-pounder – landed by Bob Berg, and worth a cool $80,550.

The tournament’s top lady angler was Sarah McMahon on Notorious with one blue and one white marlin release, and top junior angler was Capt. Russell Sinclair’s son, Finn, who released one white marlin on the new Bayliss Boatworks, Wave Paver.
