No matter how well you equipped your $2 million sportfisher, you're still going to find a bait cooler and/or 5-gallon bucket sliding around on the deck wherever in the world you go. No matter how much was spent on extra refrigeration, custom stainless-steel bait trays and the like, you can bet your patoottie that one of your crew is going to haul a cooler on board to keep the bait under the fighting chair where he can get to it when needed. The downside comes when you have to constantly wrestle with the cooler or shag down the bucket as they slip and slide around the cockpit in rough seas. I've seen guys put wet towels or rubber mesh mats down on the deck to make things stay put, but they don't really work that well, and they represent just one more thing that you have to clean at the end of the day. Instead, purchase a couple of extra pairs of the orange glass gloves (some guys call them snot gloves) that some crews use as padding under their canvas or leather gloves when wiring fish. Cut them into strips or large pieces and glue them to the bottom of your cooler or 5-gallon bucket with some 5200. (You need to double up on buckets with a concave bottom.) You can also use little pieces of the gloves to help secure storage boxes for crimp kits, swivels, etc.
