Tighten Up - Don't Lighten Up

Crews wage a constant war on boats to keep screws, fasteners, reel seats and chair bolts from backing out or loosening up because of the near-
constant vibration. Everything from Locktite to special aircraft nuts is used to keep things tight, and the old strap wrench is a constant companion.

At Gulf Stream Custom Tackle, we stumbled across a great little solution to the problem of tightening down your polished fittings and reel seats without scarring up their finish. Blue Point Manufacturing makes a pair of channel locks with replaceable rubber jaws. Made of solid aircraft aluminum, the pliers are strong enough to take on tough tasks, and they won't rust. The hard rubber jaws provide plenty of grip, but won't scratch that pretty anodized finish on your reel seats.
