The highly popular Mold Craft Softhead lures are anything but indestructible. At some point over the life span of a Softhead, you can expect any glued sections to come apart after awhile. Mold Craft's Frank Johnson suggests that you cement the sections back together again with either PVC glue (available in the plumbing section of your hardware store) or some brand of superglue.
While this solution works fine, fishing pro Clay Herndon showed me a quicker and stronger trick to keep your Softhead together. Herndon binds the sections together with two lengths of rigging cord. He draws each piece through the center leader hole with a bait needle and ties the ends together behind the skirt, hiding and protecting the knot in the process. As a bonus, if you position the bindings so they pass over the eyes, the thread will hold the eyes in place as well. In the photo, we used ordinary waxed rigging thread so you can see what the binding looks like. If you desire a more stealthy approach, use black line or rigging thread to create the binding, and you will barely notice that the lure's been repaired.
