Bowling Pin Teaser Lure

The big-game lure industry seems to be obsessed with making lures and teasers softer and more lifelike to the touch in an effort to make marlin hang on a bit longer. PlayAction even developed a 7-inch soft head bowling pin teaser. Naturally, the first time I put it out and saw how it danced around in the spread, I figured out a different way to use it. I decided to put a hook in it and fired it back on the shotgun.

Since the little bowling pin behaved just like a cedar plug, I figured I would get the advantages of a soft head with the action of the plug. I slipped a Mylar grommet over the hook and inserted a clear-coated pop rivet in the head to keep the line from wallowing out the lure's soft head.
