Everyone enjoys seeing a sailfish eat a kite bait. We also know the effectiveness of kite fishing - especially here in south Florida. But whenever you break out the kites, you can also get a headache trying to keep them flying when the wind drops. Anyone worth their salt knows how to provide extra lift by putting helium balloons on the kite, but what do you do when you're having trouble keeping the kite up even with the help of a balloon? On Reel Tight we started using two.
We begin with the regular kite and helium setup and put a bait in the first clip off the kite. Then on the second clip, we attach another helium balloon via a flossed loop, about half the size of the balloon on the kite. We let that out and then put another bait on the third clip like we normally would. This little trick keeps the kite line out of the water and your baits splashing at the surface just like they would if the wind was blowing.
