There was no fooling around on April 1 for team Billfish fishing out of Marina Pez Vela in Quepos Costa Rica, when they posted a marina record of 64 sailfish in a day.
Fishing a week before the kickoff of the Offshore World Championship, the team landed a customary dozen fish in the morning. The first two fish of the day brought the Billfish team's tally to 1,000 fish for the 50 days they fished, beginning in January.
Then in the afternoon, the bite opened up and it was nonstop action from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
It was tough to keep a bait in the water for long, and doubles and triples were the norm, with a smattering of quads landed as well.
The Billfish team consisted of Capt. John Mumford; Billfish owner Matt Feinstone; John LaGrone; mates Mario Cubillo and Christian del Gato and Salt Water Sportsman Editor Glenn Law.
