ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys -- A few ounces here, a few ounces there. Add them up and they could mean the difference between $25,000 in cash and a handshake.
The Islamorada Fishing Club's winner-take-all summer dolphin tournament, set for Wednesday and Thursday, June 1-2, is to award a guaranteed cash prize of $25,000 to the boat that brings the highest total weight of three dolphin to the dock.
If all 30 entry positions are filled, the cash award is to be $30,000.
The winning captain and mate are to be awarded the Captain's Cup and Mate's Cup, each filled with prizes.
The tournament is to get under way on Wednesday with a kickoff party and captains meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. at the club, mile marker 84 bayside in Islamorada.
Fishing starts with lines in at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Lines out is 4 p.m.
All fish must be weighed in by 5 p.m. at either the club dock or one of three certified weigh stations where the fish will be tagged. Tagged fish must be brought to the club dock by 5 p.m.
The awards ceremony is slated to start with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
Entry fee is $2,150 per boat with a limit of two anglers per boat.
