483-Pound Black Marlin Weighed In At The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament

Team Bill Collector landed the fish, won $50,000 in Daily Marlin Jackpots, and leads the First Place Team and Largest Black Marlin divisions.

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO — The first day of fishing of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament ended with a 483-pound black marlin weighed at the IGY Cabo San Lucas Marina weigh gantry. Team Bill Collector landed the fish, won $50,000 in Daily Marlin Jackpots, and leads the First Place Team and Largest Black Marlin divisions.

The Picante 45 team from Spain won the Thursday’s Billfish Release Jackpot worth $8,100. The Wild Hooker won the Daily Tuna Jackpot with a 227-pound yellowfin, winning $6,500. Team Bad Medicine beat all other dorado with its 42.2-pounder in the Daily Dorado Jackpot that earned them $6,500. No wahoo were weighed, so that jackpot rolls to the final day. There were no qualifying marlin weighed for the Level 4 Daily or the Winner Take All Marlin Jackpots, so those also roll to the final day, making for an exciting finish and a potentially big payday for one lucky team.

Overall, there were six qualified billfish released Thursday — four striped marlin and two sailfish. Today is the last day of fishing, and the fleet of 37 boats is back out on the hunt for a winning fish. If no marlin is weighed today, the Bill Collector’s marlin will be worth over $100,000.

The awards ceremony takes place at the Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa's beachside terrace on Saturday, October 20. For all tournament details and to view the live scorekeeper during the event, visit www.LosCabosBillfishTournament.com.
