Sometimes you just have to let your preconceived notions about things go. When we first opened the package containing a selection of Tomahawk lures from Marlinstar, quite frankly we didn't know what to think. And although we still haven't had a chance to give them a go in the spread over this past winter, we hope to try them this spring. What we can tell you now is that these lures show some remarkable craftsmanship. Tom Misek, the Tomahawk's creator, got his start in lure making by reading an article in Marlin in 2005. After contacting several of the world's top custom lure makers for tips, Misek created the Marlinstar line. 
 
The Tomahawk's unusual head shape causes the lure to swim with an exaggerated side-to-side motion. Misek also claims that the lures dive below the prop wash and then pop back to the surface every six seconds when trolled at 8 knots. Once back on the surface, the face of the lure blasts out a fan of spray that's sure to get the attention of any game fish in the area. Misek adds weight to the head so it will stay in the water at speeds up to 10 knots without skipping.
