"The bigger the weight, the dumber the mate," is a saying that has circulated around docks and marinas since the first chin-rigged mullet went overboard. It's a bit derogatory, but there's no doubt that adding a nice fat weight to any dead bait's chin will make it swim like it's been born again! Unfortunately, we've been hearing a lot about the detrimental effects of lead in the environment lately, so one company decided to use a different material to get your baits down where you want them.

The folks at Invisible Sinker developed a line of clear weights that virtually disappear when submerged in the water. Made from a specially formulated crystal for strength and clarity, these 1- and 3-ounce sinkers come in two different shades, pink and clear. While the advantages to bottomfishermen are obvious, imagine rigging up a dredge of 50 mullet, each with a clear weight under their chin. Now that's a stealthy presentation. The weights are about two times larger than comparable-sized lead weights, but if the fish can't see them, what does it matter?
