Last year, big-game captain and owner of Legend Lures, Roddy Hays, came out with a new line of hooks. Partially fueled by the Hays' reputation, the hooks started showing up everywhere. On August 4, 2007 Tom Evans, off the islands of Vanuatu, South Pacific, caught a pacific blue marlin that weighed 1,142 pounds on a 9/0 Hays Hook with over 65 pounds of drag on the reel. And although even the smaller hooks were extremely strong, there was just one problem -Hays didn't make any big ones. Word got back to him, and he now offers the same stainless-steel hooks in both 12/0 and 14/0 sizes.
Hays Hooks feature a handmade, drop-forged shank and a slight recurve that gives the hooks incredible hooking and retention properties. A sturdy, conical point holds its sharpness and provides excellent penetration.
Designed for use in both baits and lures, the hooks now come in sizes ranging from 7/0 to 14/0.
