Miami Heat
Hot new electronics from the Miami International Boat Show
May 22, 2007
By Capt. Karl Anderson (More articles by this author)

When it comes to shopping for electronics, the Miami International Boat Show provides one of the finest venues anywhere to really see and compare components. The boat show boasts an electronics room at the Miami Beach Convention Center that houses all the big players in marine electronics. This dedicated space makes it easy for customers and info seekers to find the products best suited for their particular applications. And in most cases, they can connect with the dealer who will eventually handle all the details of their purchase if they choose to make the leap.

As an added bonus, the manufacturer booths come fully loaded with a cadre of the most brilliant and technically savvy folks you'll ever run across. These people want to make sure you walk away with any and all of the information about their particular product, what it's used for, how to use it, its power requirements and how much it's going to cost to purchase and install. You'll most likely wander off with an information overload, but also a much better idea of what you'll need and, more importantly, why you'll need it.

The boat show always provides a great place to scope out the latest fish-catching technological marvels, and I'm never disappointed with the offering. Since technology advances at such a rapid pace, an electronics suite that's just three or four years old seems archaic in comparison to the latest and greatest to hit the market. Every time we look to upgrade a typical piece of gear or an entire suite, the technology and the equipment have advanced to make them easier to use and more powerful to help you see farther, go deeper and fish harder. Here's a very brief overview of what caught my eye at the 2007 Miami International Boat Show.
