Technique is more important than equipment.
Marlin
FLIBS is the acronym for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.First of all, that is a terrible misnomer.  The most attention getting of the vessels are not boats. (“Boats” by definition are smaller vessels that can be carried aboard ships.) The gigantic floating palaces are ships, that their owners, brokers and crew refer to as mega-yachts and are beyond any reasonable definition of boat.
Q: The consensus for bridle length here on the Great Barrier Reef has been to use as long a bridle as possible on the circle hook. However, it should not be so long that the baits could foul on the hooks — and not so short that it prevents the hooks from working as they were designed. The bridle anchoring point was also a consideration, since maximizing the gape allows the hook to work better as well. I am wondering what your experience has been.
Wow - Leap year and this February had 29 days. It is a weird system but it works pretty well, you still almost feel sorry for February the way it gets shortchanged...    Got a cool e-mail recently from one of my old deckhands. Andrew “Drew” Thorpy and a mate (Kiwi term for friend or “buddy”) got a doubleheader of marlin from an inflatable boat. I know of a few marlin caught from “rubber duck” craft but this is the first doubleheader that has come to my attention. Anyhow they were stoked and rightly so. Nice going guys!
The biggest and saddest news is that my gun, the custom Cole’s Special I had Rich Cole build, was stolen. Because the thieves had to break into a locked pickup truck (they used either a jimmy or a coat hanger, as there was no broken lock or window) and took a gun, it is classified “armed burglary,” and the value makes it grand larceny.
