Twin Granders Take Lahaina Jackpot

October 23-26; Maui, Hawaii A ton of blue marlin grand-slammed the field in the 1997 Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament. Granders placed first and second in the 21st running of the annual Maui event! The $25,000 jackpot winner boated a 1,106-pound blue to eke out a 5-pound victory over the 1,101.5-pound second-place fish. For the winning boat, Magic, it was the second grander in two years - they caught the largest Hawaii fish of 1996. For the winning captain, Russell Tanaka, it was the second time in a tournament that he caught a grander to edge out another grander.
