Progress Report: Viking 92

An update on the largest boat built in the 50-year history of the Viking Yacht Company.

The new flagship 92 Convertible, which premieres at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, will be the largest boat built in the 50-year history of the Viking Yacht Company. The first 92 Convertible will feature Viking’s signature enclosed bridge, which is in development, and the plug to build the mold is at a critical stage in the builder’s five-axis profiling milling room.

Once the five-axis machine carves the foam substrate, which replicates the shape of the finished part, epoxy is carefully applied to the foam and allowed to cure.

After the epoxy hardens, the five-axis profiler returns for another session. With surgical-like accuracy the computer-operated milling machine pares down the epoxy, where the amazing detail of what is to come is evident.
