Titan Custom Yachts

In the eyes of Russ Garufi, president of Titan Custom Yachts, not all boats are created equal. "Our goal is to build the most seaworthy sport-fishing yacht possible, using the best materials available, and to apply the highest level of craftsmanship," he says. "By 'seaworthy' I mean all the facets of the sport-fish yacht — the ability to get to the fish quickly and safely in extreme sea conditions, near or far, and to yield a stable fishing platform that offers the angler the opportunity to focus on fishing."

Garufi started Titan in 2001, but his boatbuilding experience dates back more than 30 years. To date, Titan has launched five boats from 54 to 62 feet, but is capable of building 80-footers. For Garufi, the Titan ride says it all. "We set out to build hulls that will not limit the angler, allowing fishing in calm or extreme sea conditions," he says. "It's great to see someone's impression when you take them out in big seas, and you're able to go fast, stay dry, and have a soft ride. We love to hear them say 'Wow! It doesn't pound.'"
 
Naval architect Darron Roop designs the hull bottom, and works together with the Titan team to style the boat above the waterline. Each design is laid out for optimum performance with speed and weight playing key roles. "Attention must always be given to weight control," says Garufi. "The shape of the boat is tailored to the weight by Darron so that we can achieve the ride quality we want, no matter the weight of the boat." And, Titans can move — the 62 tops out over 40 knots.

The company cold-molds the hulls and has no plans to change that process. However, it always looks to new materials for other portions of the boat. "We are always seeking new materials for interior construction and outfitting. For example, new composite technology has allowed us to move away from parts traditionally made from aluminum. The composites allow for a cleaner look and better durability," Garufi says.
 
As a custom builder, Titan prides itself on delivering exactly what its clients want, which often means luxurious interiors and high-end electronics systems. "We have a passion for detail. Throughout both the interior and exterior, we strive to produce a boat that is going to last for years and still look and feel the same way it did when it left our shop," Garufi says.
