At Rampage Yachts, the staff practices what it preaches. "Our in-house engineers are licensed captains," says brand manager Pete Gillon. "We hold seminars with our owners, dealers and engineering group, and then our group of in-house 'fish heads' will design the cockpit and helm."

With a dedicated staff and prime North Carolina testing grounds, Rampage focuses on delivering a solid, comfortable fishing boat. "Our new 41, for example, has the ruggedness of an offshore boat, the functionality of a custom sport-fisher without the additional cost, and the look and design of a true express with all the comfort and luxury you would expect in a yacht," Gillon says.
 
Originally built by Pearson Tillson in Rhode Island, the Rampage brand went through a couple of different builders before KCS International acquired it in the late 1980s. Rampage now builds six models of sport-fishers from 30 to 45 feet in its state-of-the-art facility on the Cape Fear River in North Carolina.
 
"Rampage Yachts have a unique style," Gillon says. "Rampages have a true offshore deep V or modified V hull. All of the newer models show the dry-riding Carolina bow flare. We use the finest materials available and take the time to install them properly. A Rampage is rugged, yet striking."

Rampage linked up with well-known fishing personality, Tred Barta, who helped the company meet the demands of their canyon-running customers. "Rampage takes considerable pains to design and construct a structure that can handle the offshore challenges," Gillon says. "The new 41 holds 700 gallons of fuel, enough to take you 100 miles offshore, troll for the weekend, and come home safely with fuel to spare."
 
The 100-square-foot cockpit on the 41 features two large insulated in-deck fish boxes that Gillon says will hold ice for four or five days. There is also a transom door and a deck plate for mounting a fighting chair. You'll even find rod holders in the shower to give your rods and reels a freshwater wash.
 
All of the models from 33 to 45 feet cruise around 30 knots, burning 60 gph for a range of 300 to 400 nautical miles. "The boats top out between 36 and 37 knots," Gillon says.
