A New Marlin Hotspot

It's mid-June and the marlin bite has already started off smoking hot. In Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic, crews are fishing commercial fish aggregating devices (FADS) with tremendous success. Capt. Peter Wright recently visited this luxurious resort area and you'll see his feature article on the great fishing in the August/September issue that we are working on right now.

This newly discovered fishery has produced many double-digit blue marlin days and one boat, the Betsy, caught 134 blue marlin in 35 days! "We went 26 days straight with a catch and only had 1 day when we didn't catch one. We had three days with eight releases, one day with 10 and our best day (so far) was 11," said Betsy's owner, Michael Brauser.

A few fish also showed up in St.Thomas for the June moon and boats have been plugging away at them in between the moons as well. Our next Marlin U is scheduled for St.Thomas and we still have a couple of spots left. We were lucky enough to get Red Bailey and Eddie Morrison onboard for our next session, but we are doubly lucky to have Hans Kraaz and his beauiful Bayliss boat the Vintage along for the ride as well. Kraaz takes the Vintage to all of the world's hot spots and we are lucky to have an angler of his cailber along to help us out in St.Thomas. Our dates for St. T are July 20-25th so give us a call if you can make down.
