Black Gold Wins Cap Cana Shootout

A strong final-day rally leads to victory for the Florida-based team

Harry Sargeant’s Black Gold came from behind to win the 2016 Cap Cana Shootout in the Dominican Republic. The team released four blue marlin and one white marlin on the fourth and final day of the event to leapfrog into the lead. They finished the event with seven blue marlin and five whites, all released. Auspicious finished in second place with five blue marlin and four white marlin, while the Venezuela-based Amazing Grace team was third with one blue and seven white marlin releases. The Cap Cana Shootout was the second leg of the Dominican Republic Triple Header Series, where Auspicious is now in the lead with 6,580 points. Black Gold is currently second with 5,970 points and Amazing Grace third with 2,700 points. By the end of the Cap Cana Shootout, all participating teams had at least one release and the average for the fleet was 7.5 billfish per boat.
