Minnetonka, MN – Minnetonka-based Normark Corporation, member of the Rapala VMC Group, announced that the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) will recognize Rapala on being 1st place in the Lure category and Storm for being 2nd place in the Lure category at the Third Annual World Record Achievement Awards Ceremony.
More world record fish were caught on Rapala Lures in 2005, more than any other lure. Rapala lures were responsible for fifteen new world record catches in 2005. Storm Lures were responsible for fourteen new world record catches in 2005, earning Storm the number two spot. The records were tracked in the 12 month period from November 1, 2004 – November 1, 2005.
Rapala and Storm received their awards at the ceremony held at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum on Saturday, March 18, 2006, in Dania Beach, Florida. Each year the IGFA recognizes various manufactures that have achieved the most records.
Among the new world records for Rapala lures was a 30 lb 7 oz Rainbow Trout, caught on a Rapala Husky Jerk. The fish was caught on Lake Diefen Baker in Saskatchewan, Canada in the 12 lb line class. In addition to the fifteen world records, Rapala lures also topped the list for the State Freshwater Records, with three new records in 2005, more than any other lure.
IGFA maintains and publishes world records for saltwater, freshwater, fly fishing catches, U.S. state freshwater records, and junior angler records, awarding certificates of recognition to each record holder. IGFA is recognized as the official keeper of world saltwater fishing records since 1939. IGFA entered the field of freshwater record keeping when Field & Stream transferred its 68 years of records to the association in 1978.
