World War II impacted the construction of the modern sport-fishing boat in two ways. It gave us the planing hulls of the PT boats and brought new technology to the building process. Technology developed for the military made its way into peacetime use, and by the early '50s, boatbuilders were experimenting with resins and plastics that not only led to fiberglass hulls but also improved methods used in wood boat construction. This use of laminate cold-molded processes resulted in stronger, lighter and more seaworthy boats.
